Critic #2: Savanna Yee

I noticed that one of the photos are in color and the other one is not, meaning picture are different but inverted. I did not understood what the numbers meant in relation to Kobe Bryant. Prefer yellow text on the black background but thinks colored image stands out more. Color model seems to be consistent with the infogrpahic he's basing it off of. See some similarities in language models with the box implemented and the frame around it. I notice that it matches the visual model if border was one color. Questioning the dashes and how it relates to the number.

Given your critique, I have labeled what the numbers  meant in relationship to the player. I have also included yellow text but removed the black background

because it did not fit the color model.

At first glance, I figured it was Kobe Bryant given his image and as well as his name. Confused about what the numbers meant in relationship to Kobe Bryant. Prefers color picture better because it makes the photo stand out more. I can see that the yellow backgroudn around the name indicates that it is a title. I think that he should show a way to represent numbers. He should use more Purple in his infographic.

Given your comment, I have implemented a label to indicate what his numbers meant. However, given Marcos comments, I also prefer the black and white image because of its unique meaning. I included more purple into this infographic.

At first glance, I would recommend Calvin using the background instead of the current white one he is using from his revised one. I can see that the visual language is really consistent with the reference infographic and his. Color model is also consistent. Would recommend maybe Calvin use a color image.

Give your feedback, I have not given a background image because it does not follow the consistently to that of my color model. The background is white/off-white compared to a darker color. Will look back onto this.

Critic #2: Wobin Chen

Given your feedback, I have made the font more thicker. I have experimented with bold letters, however, it did not look consistent with my typography model. I have also underlined the jersey number.

I noticed that Gold and Yellow is used in the infographic to represent the color of the lakers. In both versions I see pictures of Kobe Bryant, one picture is colored, and the other is in Black and White. The black and white could represent that Kobe is retired. The only words that appear is Kobe Bryant, showing the importance of his name and everything that he stands for with his legendary pictures.

Given your critique, I have not made any revisions because I find it intresting that you portrayed my black and white picture as a sense of retirement and a 'gone but not forgotten' emotion effect to it.

Critic #3: Michelle Chen

Michelle at first liked the color scheme and the black and white photo of Kobe Bryant. She suggests that in the visual language model has one border around the title/name, and should alter to one border instead of two. Also, Michelle suggests that I should remove the line within the dashes to make it more consistent with the visual language model infographic.

With your feedback, I have placed a solid purple color onto the title/name area to make it more consistent with the visual language model. Also, I have removed the lines from the dashes.

Critique 1 Message & Emulation

To emulate my color model, I had to use a similar color scheme with the one of the Kobe Bryant infographic. It has similar colors and ratios. I have also extracted the same data colors used and implemented for my title and future data. The colors represent the team Kobe Bryant plays for.

To emulate my visual language, I had use the existing visual language as the Kevin Durant infographic. I attempt to use the same line weights to kind of replicate to that of the name of the infographic. It also has a big degree of realism, as I am using a real life picture of Kobe.

to emulate my typography, I had used the same or similar font as the existing infographic in the Kevin Durant one. I used Myriad Pro, a similar looking font to use on the title. I have used all caps to indicate the importance of this section. Currently, all of the font-size are the same and will included different typefaces within future edits.

I have decided to switch my visual language model from the my existing of Kevin Durant because I did not like the appearance of it. It did not satisfy my options because there was really little objects to emulate and play around with. Thus, I have chosen the "Forgotten Victims of Drought" as it gives me a lot of leeway for me to represent Kobe by having fills and silhouettes. Also, I did not want to resemble that of my color model as well because I am also using a Kobe Bryant infographic as a color display.

However, I did make revisions to follow through. To emulate my visual language, I had use the existing visual language as the Kevin Durant infographic. I attempt to use the same line weights to kind of replicate to that of the name of the infographic. It also has a big degree of realism, as I am using a real life picture of Kobe. The reason why my image is black and white is because it matches the color model with the one of the other Kobe infographic and because it conveys the message that this player is retired; gone but not forgotten.

First glance, Wobin suggest that I should make the font more bold/thicker. It matches the color model of my reference infographic. To make it more consistent, Wobin suggest that I should underline the jersey numbers. Also, should the team logo along with the picture.

Appearance Elements & Critiques

Final Display Message & Emulation

This image of Kobe's Jersey is intended to trigger the emotion that this basketball player is retired, however, gone but not forgotten. By incorporating a fills and wording onto this shape. Given the fills and shapes used to indicate a jersey, the addition with the purple and yellow colors gives most viewers the feel of the Los Angeles Lakers, the is one of the most well known teams out there in basketball.

I have exploited the visual potential of appearance by using silhouettes of a jersey that contains what the object looks like. Several of my displays exploit the visual potentials of appearance because you can easily see that each of the fills and the combination of color combined is used to create the Jersey for Kobe Bryant that is well known across the world in basketball

I have used all caps to indicate the importance of this section. Currently, all of the font-size are the same and will included different typefaces within future edits. However, I have realized that this was not the typography used, but instead was a typeface called Halis Grotesque Font.
